HISTORIAN'S WORKSHOP

Creation Story
Mini-Lab

Read the models. Build a world. Tell a story that reveals what a community values.

01-05FIVE MOVES
TO ORIGINAL STORY

How do creation stories help people explain the world and express what they value?

In this Mini-Lab, you will study creation stories as a historian and then design an original story of your own. You will look closely at how different communities explain beginnings, relationships, nature, responsibility, and the values that hold a world together.

Become a storyteller who thinks like a historian.

Use evidence from two models, make purposeful choices, and create a story that shows what your imagined community believes matters.

RESPONSIBILITYRESPONSABILIDAD

Imagine with care and respect.Imagina con cuidado y respeto.

Learn from the traditions you study without copying sacred beliefs or reducing a culture to one simple idea. Your story should be original, thoughtful, and connected to the world you design.

By the end, you can...Al final, podrás...

  • Compare two creation-story models using evidence.
  • Design a world shaped by environment and values.
  • Write an original creation story with a clear transformation.

YOUR ROUTE

Use the questions as a compass.

You are not filling in this website. Use your worksheet, notebook, or teacher-provided document to develop your answers. The strongest stories make deliberate choices and can explain why those choices matter.

READ LIKE A HISTORIAN

Examine two different models you have not compared before.

Choose two new stories from the reading.

As you read, look for patterns without flattening the differences between cultures. Notice what each story explains and what it assumes about people, nature, time, and responsibility.

Guiding questions

  • What feature of the world does each story explain?
  • What role does a creator, force, ancestor, animal, or natural element play?
  • What does each story suggest people should value or protect?
  • How does the environment shape the story?
  • What is one meaningful similarity and one important difference?
  • Which idea could inspire your story without copying a culture's sacred tradition?
02

BUILD YOUR STORY WORLD

Decide where and under what conditions your story begins.

Decide dónde y bajo qué condiciones comienza tu relato.

World design

Choose a setting with specific land, water, climate, sky, plants, animals, and resources.

Value design

Choose one value or question your community's story will explore: balance, courage, belonging, care, change, or another meaningful idea.

Elige un valor o pregunta: equilibrio, valentía, pertenencia, cuidado, cambio u otra idea significativa.

Ask yourself

  • What does this world need in order to survive?
  • What is missing, out of balance, or waiting to be created?
  • Why would this community tell this story in this place?
  • What relationship connects humans to the natural world?
03

DESIGN THE CREATION

Plan a transformation with a beginning, tension, and meaning.

  • Who or what causes the change, and why?
  • What action creates land, life, light, time, language, or relationship?
  • What problem or choice gives the story movement?
  • What consequence teaches the audience something?
  • What image, object, sound, or natural force will carry your central idea?
04

WRITE THE STORY

Turn your design into an original creation story.

Story must includeclear beginning, development, and endinga creator, force, ancestor, or processat least three environmental details
Your voice should showa conflict, choice, or transformationa value or worldviewspecific imagery and intentional language

Before you draft

  • Can a reader visualize the world without a map?
  • Does every major detail help reveal a value, relationship, or condition?
  • Does the ending explain why the world is the way it is now?
  • What will a reader understand about your community after hearing the story?
05

REFLECT AS A HISTORIAN

Explain the choices behind your story.

Explica las decisiones detrás de tu relato.

CLAIM

My creation story shows that the community values...

EVIDENCE

For example, I chose to include...

ANALYSIS

This matters because it reveals...

Final reflection

  • Which model most influenced your thinking, and how did you transform the idea?
  • What does your story reveal about the environment and community you designed?
  • What choice are you most proud of? What would you revise?
  • How did you show respect for the traditions you studied?
